The City of Woodstock on Oct. 17 announced a letter of intent with developer Southern Ventures to build a six‑story, 130‑room hotel in Woodstock City Center, a move city leaders say will add lodging and conference space to support local businesses and the amphitheater. The city says the privately financed project will boost tourism and economic activity downtown.
The proposed hotel will sit directly across from the Northside Hospital‑Cherokee Amphitheater and include multiple food and beverage venues, a spa, ground‑floor retail and about 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Valor Hospitality Partners will manage the property while Southern Ventures continues brand discussions with a major hotel company; a formal brand announcement is expected once plans are finalized.
City officials say the hotel is privately financed and that the city’s role is limited to public infrastructure—roads, parking deck and utilities—funded through SPLOST revenues, not property tax increases. The Woodstock Downtown Development Authority is committing $2 million from State Hotel‑Motel Tax revenue toward the conference space, the release says.
Public parking in the City Center East Parking Deck will remain free, with a limited number of spaces set aside for hotel valet to prevent overflow into on‑street parking. The city notes the project follows long‑range planning to keep downtown walkable, and design review will require brick-and-glass façades, stepped‑back upper floors and landscaped buffers to preserve neighborhood scale.
Mayor Michael Caldwell is quoted saying the hotel “brings critical amenities like high‑quality lodging and conference space that will support our local businesses and attract new visitors.” No construction timeline was provided in the announcement.
