Woodstock Opens the Hood on City Services During Georgia Cities Week

Residents got an up-close look at the vehicles and gear used daily by police, fire, public works, and parks crews during the annual statewide civic celebration

Woodstock marked Georgia Cities Week 2026 with a hands-on community open house that gave residents, especially the youngest ones, a close-up look at the vehicles and equipment that keep the city running day to day.

Families turned out to explore police cruisers, fire trucks, and the heavy machinery used by public works and parks and trails crews to maintain Woodstock's roads and green spaces. For many kids, it was the first time they'd stood next to a full-size fire engine or climbed up for a look at a public works rig, the kind of experience that sticks.

The Woodstock Police Department, which organized the event and shared it on the department's Facebook page, thanked residents for coming out and called it a success. Staff from public works and parks and trails also had a presence, a reminder that city government is more than police and fire, it's the crew patching the pothole on your street and the team keeping the trails clear after a storm.

Georgia Cities Week is an annual initiative of the Georgia Municipal Association that encourages cities statewide to connect residents with their local government. Cities typically use the week for open houses, tours, proclamations, and community cleanups, a chance to put faces to the services residents rely on but rarely think about until something goes wrong.

For Woodstock, the format made sense. The city has grown rapidly in recent years, and with that growth comes a constant influx of newer residents who may not yet know what their city departments do or who to call. Events like this one close that gap in a way a city website never quite can.

The police department invited attendees to share their photos in the comments of the original Facebook post and signaled that more community events are coming. Residents are encouraged to follow the Woodstock Police Department on Facebook to stay informed.
