The City of Woodstock has approved permits for Wing, an Alphabet subsidiary, to operate a Walmart drone delivery hub at the Highway 92 store, the city announced Oct. 29. The FAA-regulated program will bring rapid, low‑altitude deliveries of household goods, medicine and groceries to local homes.
Wing told City Council members each drone weighs about 11 pounds, can carry just under 2.5 pounds, and has a one‑way range up to six miles. The fully electric aircraft typically fly between 150 and 200 feet, well below commercial airspace, and use the Wing app so customers can verify and clear their delivery spot before checkout.
The drone hub, called a Nest, will include charging pads powered by battery‑charged generators designed for quiet, low‑emission operation. Mayor Michael Caldwell said the partnership reflects Woodstock’s goal to adopt new technology while keeping community safety central.
Plans and permits have been approved by the city’s Building Department. City officials say service will launch after Wing completes site improvements at the Highway 92 Walmart; no firm start date was provided.
