Woodstock Elementary School mathematicians calculated their way to victory recently, securing the overall first-place trophy at the 4th Annual Cherokee County School District (CCSD) Elementary School Math Competition held at Freedom Middle School.

The event, sponsored by the Cherokee County Educational Foundation, brought together several hundred students to test their ciphering skills. Participants tackled individual timed challenges and a team competition where groups of five collaborated to solve ten complex math problems with only four minutes allotted per question. According to the Office of Academics & Accountability, the competition is designed to develop problem-solving skills and inspire students to excel in mathematics.

Woodstock Elementary School (ES) claimed the highest combined scores for 4th and 5th grades to win the district title. Sixes Elementary School placed second, followed by Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy in third. In the individual categories, Woodstock fourth grader Bradden Hanuscak took home first place, while Woodstock’s fourth-grade team also secured the top spot in their division.

Led by coaches Meredith Hager and Jennah McClure, the winning Woodstock ES rosters included fourth graders Gayul Kim, Bradden Hanuscak, Aiden Arun, Phoebe Neal, and Raghav Madhavan. The fifth-grade team consisted of Max Figueredo-Rangel, Ben Clark, Amelia Childers, Jackson Moeller, and Harper Henriques.
