Woodstock Arts has revealed the full cast for its production of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical," with opening night set for June 10. The show adapts Jeff Kinney's beloved book series, a franchise that has sold hundreds of millions of copies worldwide and remains a fixture on the shelves of Cherokee County school libraries, with a book by Kevin del Aguila and music and lyrics by Michael Mahler and Alan Schmuckler.
Ani Porter leads the cast as Greg Heffley, the scheming, self-absorbed middle schooler whose illustrated journal entries launched a pop culture phenomenon. Palmer Howard plays Greg's relentlessly optimistic best friend Rowley Jefferson, and Andy Jacobsen takes on Roderick, Greg's older brother and resident tormentor. Rounding out the Heffley household are Ethan Fenton as Mr. Hefley and Adult Men, Remy Kunzman as little brother Manny, and Eden Mew as Susan Hefley and Fregley's Mom. Kalynn Richard plays the eccentric neighborhood kid Fregley. Shanna Dawson is cast as Mrs. Clayton and Ensemble.
Two cast members will be stepping onto the Woodstock Arts stage for the first time: Mew and Dawson both carry the "^" designation in the official announcement, which the organization notes denotes a Woodstock Arts debut, a milestone it highlights with evident pride in each new production.
That mix of fresh faces and returning performers is something of a Woodstock Arts signature. As the city's primary performing and visual arts organization, Woodstock Arts produces a full season of theatrical productions each year, drawing talent and audiences from across Cherokee County and the greater Atlanta metro area. Its productions consistently blend emerging young performers with seasoned adult actors, a dynamic that makes a show like this one particularly well-suited to its stage.
"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical" is, in many ways, a natural fit for this community. Families whose kids grew up dog-earing Greg Heffley's illustrated journals will find the story immediately familiar, and the musical format gives those stories new energy. For Cherokee County residents looking to spend a summer evening downtown, it's the kind of show that works for every age in the room. Tickets and additional information are available through Woodstock Arts' official channels.
