Two Drivers Arrested After Clocking 90-Plus MPH on Wet Wade Green Road
Cherokee County deputies say the pair appeared to be street racing at more than twice the posted speed limit on a rain-slicked public road.

A Cherokee County Sheriff's deputy arrested two drivers Tuesday night after clocking them at more than 90 mph in a 40-mph zone on Wade Green Road northbound — on a wet roadway, while the pair appeared to be engaged in an impromptu street race.
The two drivers, a 21-year-old and a 34-year-old, were both taken into custody and are facing serious charges, according to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office. The agency did not release the drivers' names in its public post.
The sheriff's office did not mince words in describing the danger. Wet pavement significantly reduces braking distance and vehicle control, meaning the drivers were traveling at speeds that left little margin for error — not just for themselves, but for anyone else who happened to be on Wade Green Road that night.
"This isn't a video game, a movie set, or your personal racetrack," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. "When you drive like this, you're not just risking your own life — you're gambling with everyone else's."
Wade Green Road is one of Cherokee County's busier corridors, connecting residential neighborhoods and commercial areas in the Woodstock area. At 90-plus mph, a driver covers roughly 130 feet per second — leaving almost no time to react to traffic signals, turning vehicles, or pedestrians.
The arrests serve as a reminder that deputies actively patrol the county's roads, including at night and in poor weather conditions — and that street racing on public roads carries real legal consequences, not just the risk of a crash.
