Residents should prepare for a significant drop in temperatures as a strong cold front arrives Sunday, bringing wind chill values in the teens to lower 20s across the region Sunday night into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Atlanta, the incoming system will result in "below normal temperatures." While actual air temperatures are forecast to drop into the teens and lower 20s, the apparent temperature—how the air feels on exposed skin—will be notably lower due to wind conditions.

Data released by the NWS indicates that the coldest period will occur from Sunday night through Monday morning. A wind chill map provided by the agency projects apparent temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees for the metro Atlanta and North Georgia area. Specifically, the region north of Atlanta, including Cherokee County, falls within zones forecasted for 10-to-15 and 15-to-20 degree wind chills.
