Storms Bring Heavy Rain and Flood Potential to Woodstock

Woodstock residents should prepare for significant rainfall and potential flash flooding as a storm system moves into the area Friday night through Saturday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Atlanta has issued a forecast warning of waves of showers and storms ahead of an approaching cold front.

Forecasters expect widespread rainfall totals between 2 and 3 inches, with localized amounts potentially exceeding 4 inches. Consequently, the area is under a "Slight Risk" (Level 2 of 5) for excessive rainfall. This volume of water increases the possibility of flash flooding, particularly near rivers, creeks, and streams, as well as areas north of the I-85 corridor.

In addition to the flood threat, there is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms from late Friday night through Saturday afternoon. While the risk level is low (Level 1 of 5), the NWS indicates that strong wind gusts are the primary concern, along with a low-end threat of a brief tornado.

Officials advise motorists to avoid driving through water-covered roadways, urging drivers to "turn around and seek alternate routes." Residents with outdoor plans should exercise caution, specifically those near waterways or low-lying areas.
