Sheriff warns of bond-payment phone scam
Cherokee Sheriff's Office says callers pose as deputies and ask for bond money via phone or mobile apps; residents should not send funds.

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office on Nov. 13 warns of a phone scam targeting families of recently incarcerated people in Cherokee County, including Woodstock residents. Scammers call claiming to accept bond payments over the phone or through apps such as Apple Pay or Chime — a claim the office says is false and could cost families money.
The office says, "THIS IS A SCAM!" and lists three things it will never do: call to solicit money, ask for payment over the phone, or accept payments through mobile apps. If you receive a call like this, the Sheriff's Office advises hanging up immediately, not sending money and not sharing personal information.
No timeline or additional verification phone numbers were provided in the alert. The Sheriff's Office also asked residents to share the warning to help protect the community.
