R.M. Moore Robotics Team Advances to Super Regionals
Dean Rusk Middle School teams also earn top honors at First LEGO League event

<p><em>Woodstock Community News| Woodstock, GA</em></p><p>A robotics team from R.M. Moore ES STEM Academy has secured a spot in the upcoming super regional competition after earning the Champions trophy at a recent First LEGO League event. Teams from Dean Rusk Middle School also took home awards for core values and robot design, highlighting local student success in STEM education.</p><p>The R.M. Moore "Arrowheads" will move on to the super regionals next month, which will be hosted by Mill Creek Middle School. Dean Rusk Middle School’s "Brick Navy" team won the Core Values award, while their "Brick Army" team earned the Robot Design award. According to the Cherokee County School District, additional local teams may be selected for the super regionals in the coming weeks as other regional events conclude.</p><p>In First LEGO League competitions, elementary and middle school students use the LEGO Mindstorms system to build robots that solve specific missions on a tabletop field. Teams also conduct a research project to solve a real-world problem; this year's theme focused on ocean exploration and ecosystem conservation. Trophies are awarded for robot design, performance, core values, and the research project.</p><p>The winning R.M. Moore team includes captains Emma Cumbee and Griffin Donnelly, along with members Beckham Bailey, Alexa Cainion, Sawyer DeBord, Lincoln Duignan, Elsie Grimm, Jess Lamb, Kempton Laporte, and Weston Scott. They are coached by teachers David Cornn, Lauren Donnelly, and Donna Lownes. The Dean Rusk teams are coached by teachers Teresa Hutto and Lauren Snider.</p>
