Indian Knoll Elementary School claimed the top trophy at the 2026 Cherokee County School District Reading Bowl, besting a field of competing elementary schools in the district's annual celebration of student literacy.
Little River Elementary School finished second in the elementary division, with Arnold Mill Elementary School rounding out the top three. The competition, held at a Cherokee County School District facility, drew teams decked out in custom team shirts — Indian Knoll's squad sporting shirts reading "How Many Nights Should You Be Reading? 6-7," a nod to the kind of spirited team identity that has become a hallmark of the event.
On the middle school side, E.T. Booth Middle School's Falcons took home a trophy of their own, with the team celebrating in matching black shirts and oversized novelty sunglasses — a sign that the Reading Bowl, competitive as it is, doesn't take itself too seriously.
The Reading Bowl challenges students to read a selection of books and then answer questions about them in a tournament-style format, rewarding both depth of reading and quick recall. For the students who compete, it's one of the few school events where hitting the books is the whole point.
