High Fire Danger Warning Issued for Woodstock, North Georgia Thursday
Low humidity and dry conditions create elevated wildfire risk through Thursday evening, prompting a caution advisory from local fire officials.

High fire danger conditions are expected to grip Woodstock and much of North and Central Georgia through Thursday evening, the Woodstock Fire Department warned, as a combination of dry air and light winds creates hazardous burning conditions.
The department said relative humidity levels of 25 percent or less are forecast to persist for four or more hours Thursday afternoon into the evening. At that level, vegetation and other outdoor fuels dry out quickly, making fires easier to ignite and harder to control.
Winds out of the northwest to northeast at 5 to 10 mph will add to the concern, the department said. While not extreme, those winds are enough to push a fire across dry ground before crews can respond.
Residents who have planned any outdoor burning are urged to use extreme caution — or postpone it entirely until conditions improve. Cherokee County sits squarely within the affected zone, and even a small, controlled burn can escape quickly when humidity drops this low.
The warning serves as a reminder that late winter in Georgia can bring some of the region's most dangerous fire weather, when vegetation remains dry from cooler months and before spring rains arrive to green things up.
