The Woodstock Fire Department warns residents of high fire danger conditions affecting North and Central Georgia this afternoon and evening, citing low relative humidity and dry fuels that increase the risk of uncontrolled fires.
According to the alert issued for January 20, 2026, relative humidity levels are expected to drop to 25 percent or less for a duration of four or more hours. These dry conditions are accompanied by northwest winds ranging from 8 to 12 mph, creating an environment where fires can spread rapidly.
Local officials state that "it is best not to burn" given the current fire weather conditions. For residents who still choose to conduct outdoor burning, the department urges extreme caution. Essential safety measures include keeping a water hose, rake, hoe, or shovel immediately next to the fire and ensuring the flames are never left unattended.
