The 2026 Georgia Police and Fire Games will wrap up with a Community 5K at Hobgood Park on Saturday, June 13, and organizers are inviting the general public to lace up and run alongside the sworn competitors.
The Georgia Police and Fire Games brings together active and retired public safety personnel from across the state for athletic competition, and this year, the closing event lands right here in Cherokee County. The Community 5K opens that experience to everyday residents, giving locals a direct way to be part of the games rather than watching from the sidelines.
Civilian runners will compete in their own category, with awards going to the top three finishers in each age group, the same recognition extended to the sworn public safety competitors. It's a small but meaningful detail: the structure treats community members as participants, not spectators.
Hobgood Park in Woodstock is one of Cherokee County's most active recreational facilities, regularly drawing residents for sports leagues, outdoor events, and community gatherings. Hosting the closing race of a statewide public safety competition adds a different kind of occasion to that calendar.
Registration is open now through Race Roster at raceroster.com/events/2026/115521/georgia-police-and-fire-games-2026. Spots are available in advance, anyone planning to run should register before race day.
