Frost Advisory, Wind Advisory Hit Cherokee County Thursday Night

A one-two weather punch is headed for the Woodstock area: a Wind Advisory in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday, followed by a Frost Advisory running from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, according to the Woodstock Fire Department.

The wind threat arrives first. North winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph, are expected to blow around unsecured outdoor objects and could bring down tree limbs. Forecasters warn that a few scattered power outages are possible, and high-profile vehicles — trucks, SUVs, and trailers — should be driven with extra caution throughout the evening.

Once the wind settles, the cold moves in. Temperatures are forecast to drop as low as 35 degrees overnight, enough to produce frost formation across portions of north and northwest Georgia, including Cherokee County. That kind of cold can kill sensitive outdoor plants left unprotected.

The Woodstock Fire Department is urging residents to take action before heading to bed Thursday night — bring in or cover tender plants, secure anything that could be tossed by the wind, and check that outdoor furniture and decorations are fastened down.

For gardeners who have already started spring planting, Friday morning's frost could be the season's last hard test before warmer weather takes hold for good.
