Cherokee High School student Jacob Duncan is serving as a Student Delegate to the Cherokee County School Board, a position dedicated to providing input to the Superintendent and board members during the current school year.
According to the Cherokee County School District, delegates serve one-year terms to offer feedback that assists the board in its mission to improve district performance. Duncan stated that he accepted the role to better understand the logistical operations behind the school system and to build relationships with district operators to support his peers.
"It is common for many to potentially be confused or angry about a decision, as they do not know all that went into the ruling," Duncan said. "I wanted to learn why and how decisions are made and through that learn what to consider when looking to make an impact."
Duncan is heavily involved in the Cherokee High community, serving as captain for both the varsity swim and dive team and the track and field throwing team for the 2024-25 season. His academic leadership includes serving as president of the National Honor Society and Beta Club, as well as vice president of HOSA Future Health Professionals.
Beyond the classroom, Duncan’s service record includes volunteering at Northside Hospital and participating in the Thanksgiving Basket Project. He also operates his own business, Duncan Home Services, which he founded in the fifth grade. The district will continue introducing student delegates from area high schools over the coming months.
