With cold weather bearing down on Cherokee County, local churches and a nonprofit coalition are opening an emergency warming station Monday night to give anyone without shelter a safe place to ride out the temperatures.

Woodstock City Church, located at 150 Ridgewalk Pkwy., will serve as the overnight refuge, operated in partnership with the Homeless Coalition of Cherokee County. Guests may arrive between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, and must depart by 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Organizers say all are welcome.

The warming station is part of a broader network of emergency cold-weather shelters the Homeless Coalition of Cherokee County activates when temperatures drop to dangerous levels across the county.

Residents with questions can call 770-406-6161 or visit the coalition's warming station page at homelesscoalitioncherokee.org/warmingstation for the most current information.

Officials are asking the public to help spread the word — particularly to anyone who may be unsheltered or who encounters someone in need on the streets of Woodstock or elsewhere in Cherokee County this week.
