Cherokee County Sixth Graders Win Awards in STEM Essay Contest
Students from five middle schools earn cash prizes for communicating science concepts in districtwide competition.

<p><em>Woodstock Community News| Woodstock, GA</em></p><p>The Cherokee County School District announced the winners of its fourth annual Sixth-Grade Fall STEM Essay Contest this week, awarding cash prizes to students across five middle schools for their ability to communicate complex science and technology concepts.</p><p>Sponsored by district partners Cobb EMC and Gas South, the competition is one of two held each school year to recognize student excellence in writing about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Top essays from each participating school were selected for recognition, with prizes ranging from $20 to $50.</p><p>First-place winners, who each received a $50 prize, included Lily Parker of Woodstock Middle School and Krish Patel of E.T. Booth Middle School. Other top winners across the county included McNeal Cook of Creekland Middle School, Vedaant Maheshwari of Dean Rusk Middle School, and Aria Przeluski of Mill Creek Middle School.</p><p>Second-place students receiving $40 prizes were Cayden Muller (Woodstock MS), Jeremiah Harrigan (E.T. Booth MS), Scott Colley (Creekland MS), Manya Shukla (Dean Rusk MS), and Ivana Ikedum (Mill Creek MS).</p><p>Dozens of other students placed third through 10th, earning prizes between $20 and $30. At Woodstock Middle School, recognized students included Zachary Morgan, Parker Nicol, Audrey Price, Kariny Palmar Romero, John Kasarhis Paraschis, Marcelo Quesada Cubero, Graham King, and Anthony Reyes. E.T. Booth Middle School winners included Niethan Jave Calimas, Finlay Hamilton, Jazra Crews, Ricardo Jimenez Brens, Tatum Cockrell, Gauge Gomez, Hudson Heath, and Caroline Horn.</p>
