Ten school social workers across the Cherokee County School District received public recognition this week as the nation marked National School Social Worker Week, observed March 1–7, 2026.
The district highlighted the group — Megan Allen, Unique Aquino, Nancy Acevedo, Madison Bobbitt, Brittney Farr, Marcie Firebaugh, Sydney Hotaling, Kelsey King, Jessica Threadgill, and Valerie Walker — for what officials described as an "unparalleled talent and unmatched dedication" to students and their families.
School social workers occupy a role that often goes unseen by the broader public. They serve as the bridge between the classroom and the circumstances students carry with them through the door — connecting families to resources, addressing barriers to learning, and supporting the emotional and social well-being that underpins academic success.
The Cherokee County School District said the team's work ensures students are "learning more, growing more, and achieving more" than they otherwise could.
For the 10 professionals recognized this week, the acknowledgment is a rare moment of visibility in a job defined largely by quiet, behind-the-scenes work on behalf of Cherokee County's kids.
