Snow showers could reduce visibility during the evening commute, though road accumulation is not expected
A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for portions of north Georgia until 11 p.m. EDT, according to an alert shared by the Woodstock Fire Department. The advisory, issued March 16 by the National Weather Service in Atlanta, covers areas including the Jasper and Pickens County region. Residents in the broader Cherokee County area should monitor conditions, though the county does not appear to fall within the core advisory zone.
Scattered snow showers were expected to bring pockets of brief, heavy snowfall capable of accumulating on grass and elevated surfaces. Road surfaces remained above 40 degrees with subsurface temperatures above 60 degrees, meaning snow accumulation on roadways was not anticipated.
The primary concern was reduced visibility during the Thursday evening commute. Gusty winds combined with heavier snow showers could cause visibility to drop to as low as a quarter mile in some areas.
The Woodstock Fire Department urged drivers to slow down and use caution if visibility became impacted by blowing snow. Residents can check current road conditions by dialing 511 for the latest updates from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
