Residents should secure outdoor objects and protect pipes and plants as temperatures could drop to 26 degrees overnight
The Woodstock Fire Department is alerting residents to a Wind Advisory and Freeze Warning affecting the Cherokee County area through Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026. The National Weather Service in Atlanta issued both alerts, warning of dangerous wind gusts and sub-freezing overnight temperatures.
The Wind Advisory is in effect until 2 a.m. EDT Tuesday, with northwest winds expected at 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. Forecasters warn that gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, bring down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages.
A Freeze Warning takes effect at 11 p.m. Monday and remains in effect until 10 a.m. EDT Tuesday. Temperatures could drop as low as 26 degrees, which may damage or kill sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects before winds intensify. Those with gardens or landscaping should cover or bring in tender plants before temperatures fall overnight.
To prevent frozen pipes, officials recommend wrapping exposed pipes, draining outdoor lines or allowing faucets to drip slowly. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution on roadways due to the strong winds.
