Gary Provost, the head custodian at Sixes Elementary School, has been named the Cherokee County School District’s Support Staff Employee of the Year for the elementary level. Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis announced the recognition during the district's annual celebration on February 4, 2026.

"Our teachers are the heart of our schools, and our support staff are the heartbeat," Davis said while addressing the honorees. The event recognized staff members selected by each school, center, and central office division throughout the county.

Provost secured the overall win for the elementary school category. The district presented special awards to one winner in three distinct groups: elementary schools, middle/high schools and centers, and central office staff. As part of the ceremony, the district showcased tribute videos highlighting the contributions of the top winners.

Provost is known within the Sixes Elementary community for his positive interaction with students. In addition to his custodial duties, he is frequently seen in the school hallways greeting children with high-fives and engaging with students during the school day.
