National Weather Service discourages outdoor burning due to low humidity and dry conditions.

Woodstock residents are urged to exercise caution today as the National Weather Service (NWS) Atlanta has issued a Fire Danger Statement covering North and Central Georgia, including Cherokee County. The alert is in effect for this afternoon and early evening.
According to the NWS, high fire danger conditions are expected due to a combination of environmental factors. Forecasters predict relative humidity levels will drop to between 20 and 25 percent, accompanied by southwest winds of 3 to 7 mph. The statement notes that "dry fuels" in the area further contribute to the risk.
Because of these conditions, the National Weather Service explicitly states that "outdoor burning is discouraged." Residents in Woodstock and surrounding neighborhoods should be aware that fires can spread quickly under current weather patterns.
The alert, updated on February 8, 2026, applies to a broad section of the state, placing the entire metro Atlanta area within the affected zone. Residents are advised to monitor conditions and avoid activities that could spark open flames.
