The Cherokee County School District honored 192 high school students Thursday night as 2026 Superintendent’s Key Scholars, recognizing academic performance that places them in the top 10% of students nationwide.
Held at Cherokee High School, the 21st Annual Superintendent's Key Scholar Recognition Ceremony celebrated students who earned a PSAT National Merit Selection Index score of 185 or greater. Honorees received a commemorative keychain, while those with scores of 200 or higher—marking them as top performers—received a special cord to wear at graduation.
Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis and School Board Chair Janet Read Welch congratulated the scholars during the event. "When I look to the back of this room at these students, it is why I have hope for the future," Davis said. "The character and caliber and commitment of these students is just amazing."
Dozens of students from Woodstock-area schools were among those recognized, including scholars from Woodstock High School, River Ridge High School, and Etowah High School. The evening included performances by the River Ridge High School orchestra and the presentation of colors by the Cherokee High School Air Force JROTC. The event was sponsored by district partners Cobb EMC and LGE Community Credit Union.
