Woodstock Accepting Applications for Mayor's Youth Leadership Academy

High school students in Woodstock have until March 31 to apply for a competitive leadership program that puts them inside city government — and only a dozen will make the cut.

The Mayor's Youth Leadership Academy, known as MYLA, is open to rising juniors and seniors and runs June 8–12, 2026. The program is designed to give participants a hands-on look at how local government operates while building leadership skills and connecting them with community leaders. The City of Woodstock runs the program in partnership with the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at the University of Georgia.

With just 12 spots available, the academy is intentionally small — a format that allows for deeper engagement with city officials and a more intensive leadership experience than a typical civic education program might offer.

Students interested in applying can find the application at woodstockga.gov/youthacademy. The deadline is March 31.

For a Woodstock teenager with an eye on public service, business, or community leadership, a week spent learning the mechanics of city hall — and building relationships with the people who run it — could prove to be one of the more consequential summers of their high school years.
