Cherokee County Students Earn Spots in Young Georgia Authors Regional Competition

Thirteen students from the Cherokee County School District have earned a shot at the regional stage of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition, the district announced, advancing past school-level judging in one of the state's premier K-12 literacy contests.
The Young Georgia Authors competition is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade and challenges participants to write across a range of genres — from personal narrative to poetry to fiction. Students must first win at the school level before advancing to regional competition, making the district's 13 qualifiers a meaningful benchmark of writing achievement.
The 2026 class of Cherokee County honorees spans multiple grade levels, as shown in the district's announcement, reflecting strong participation across elementary, middle, and high school campuses throughout the county.
The competition has long served as one of Georgia's primary vehicles for encouraging student writing outside the constraints of standardized testing, giving young authors room to develop their own voice and style. For Cherokee County students, advancing to the regional round puts them in contention against writers from school districts across their part of the state.
